AccesStair (VMH)

  • How does it work?
The AccesStair is normally a stairway. On demand, it automatically converts to a wheelchair platform lift, it then returns to being a stairway. The steps retract and stow under the upper level landing exposing the platform. The platform is then available to transport the user between the lower and upper level surfaces. When the wheelchair lift mode is concluded, the platform is returned to the lower level and the steps are extended to reestablish the stairway.
  • Is it code compliant?
The AccesStair provides a stairway that meets the dimensional requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the International Building Code (IBC). The lift function meets the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) A18.1 - 2005 Safety Standard for Platform Lifts and Stairway Chair Lifts.
  • Is it accepted in my state?
This device complies with ASME A18.1 - 2005 and ADAAG. If your state has not adopted these standards,

  • Is it easy to install?
The AccesStair only requires a flat level area where the lower level meets the upper level and a 208/230 VAC power supply. No pit or extensive site preparation is required. The lower level surface must be structurally sound to support the weight and the anchoring bolts.
  • How much space does it take up?
The "footprint" of the AccesStair is controlled by the wheelchair platform, not by the number of steps. There are 2 sizes depending upon the vertical travel of the AccesStair. From 24 inches to 36 inches of vertical travel, the "footprint" is 60 inches wide by 98 inches long. From 36.1 inches to 50 inches of vertical travel, the "footprint" is 60 inches wide by 120 inches long.
  • How long does it take to install?
Depending on site access, the AccesStair can typically be installed in one workday. If the AccesStair must be disassembled to pass through a 36-inch door, the disassembly and reassembly time adds one workday.
  • What is the lead-time on delivery?
The normal quoted delivery time is 12 weeks from receipt of approved drawings and down payment from the customer. Other delivery times can be quoted on an individual project basis.
  • How much does it cost?
An AccesStair Budget Pricing Information sheet can be requested by calling the nearest Vertical Mobility Sales Office. Numerous items such as unit size, optional equipment, freight, local permit & inspection fees, and local labor requirements prevent using a published price list.
  • How is the 3-bid requirement met?
